Stichting Het Stenen Archief

Foundation Stichting Het Stenen Archief was established in 2019.
As of February 1, 2020, the status of Public benefit institution (ANBI) has been acquired.
The objective of the foundation is:

  • acquiring, managing, preserving and making accessible various genealogical data relating to tombstones and (Jewish) cemeteries in the Netherlands;
  • providing knowledge and insight therein;
  • conducting research for next of kin, institutions and interested parties;
  • making a lasting contribution to the maintenance and progressive development of a memorial culture in the Netherlands
  • and furthermore everything that is directly or indirectly related to or may be conducive thereto, all in the broadest sense of the word.

This foundation continues the digitization project of the Jewish cemeteries in the Netherlands, started by Akevoth in collaboration with the Nederlands-Israëlitisch Kerkgenootschap, as described in the policy plan.
Former members of Akevoth still make an important contribution.

For 2024 and subsequent years, the emphasis will be on the oldest fields of the large Jewish cemetery in Muiderberg. The oldest field in particular has been severely neglected. A project plan has been drawn up that initially provides for making many overgrown, no longer visible gravestones on that field accessible. In 2024, this will mainly involve landscaping work, the costs of which are estimated at €66,000. We have now found a number of important sponsors for this. In the years that follow, the focus will shift to uncovering fallen stones and repairing broken stones. This work allows all this information to be included on the website of Het Stenen Archief, where these historically important parts of Muiderberg still form a major gap.

More information can be found elsewhere on this website: via the “Project Muiderberg” button on the home page.
